Kent Maxwell

Kent Maxwell first picked up a paintbrush at the age of fifteen and has ever since been drawn to the canvas. Following his formal fine arts education at New England College, Kent developed his craft while under apprenticeships with stained glassed artist Patricia Barkley in Idaho and artist Richard Lethem in Maine. Kent uses experimental, progressive techniques to create low relief textures onto the canvas, integrating various materials into his medium using trowels, paint scrapers, and other methods. Each work contains a unique array of materials, and as such, takes on a particular atmospheric feel. By embracing a looser form and emphasizing ambience over detail, Kent’s art enkindles his viewer’s imagination, connecting memory, mood, and dreams. Kent currently resides and works on the seacoast of New Hampshire.
